Hi,
I am reaching 4 years 6 months after getting my GC. I have few questions regarding the citizenship.

1. I found through some friends that we can apply after 4 years 6 months , is it true? if not even if I apply after 4 years 6 months, will my application sit on the desk and get ignored since the time is not met ? does this have any negative effects rather than positive or is it normal?

2. Is San Jose office is faster or SFO is faster?

3. How do we choose the INS office San Jose or SFO? is it based on where you live currently?

Regards,
RP

You need to find better informed friends. It is 5 years minus 90 days. Some people like to say 4 years and 9 months, but it is not the same. If you apply too early what's going to happen is that your wallet is going to get a lot lighter. I mean if you're lucky they reject the application and don't cash the check, if you don't get lucky they cash the check and still the application gets rejected. It is not going to sit anywhere.

2. SFO is faster. If you have a chance move to a city under the San Francisco office. If you don't want to move then it is a moot point.

3. You don't choose. It would be good, but no one chooses. The local office is determined by your zip code. I have posted a few times the link in the uscis website where you can find which one is your local office according to your zip code. You send the application to the California Service Center and they route it to the correct local office. You don't need to do anything for this.
