Hi Everyone ,

I have a simple question ..Would appreciate if someone replies to it.

My H1b has been filed.
My I129 petition has the US consulate as "MUMBAI" ..

But I am residing and working in bangalore from the past 5 years.

At the time of fixing appointment the vfs-usa site indicates that one would need to give "The state of residence" for the last six months which is then used to select the consulate for appointment.According to this,The interview is scheduled at "CHENNAI" .

1) I need to confirm whether the Consulate mentioned in the `I129` Petition or `residing state` Consulate would take precedence.

2) Is there any way in which my interview can be scheduled at the US Consulate in MUMBAI.

thanks in advance ..

When I applied for F1 Visa a few years back, I was in Bangalore for 3 years. However, my permanent residence was in Mumbai, and my passport had details of Mumbai only. Hence, I applied for F1 through Mumbai Consulate office. After couple of phone calls to my home in Mumbai, the consulate allowed me to take interview at Mumbai. They just wanted to know why I had applied at Mumbai, and we told them that I was in Bangalore only temporarily, which was the case, and I could be moved to other location. Hence, we applied visa at the consulate of my permanent residence.
I would suggest you to email the consulate at Mumbai, they reply usually within 2 business days.

All the best,
Manoj
