Which Consulate for VISA Interview??

Dear Experts,

I'm a H1B Applicant and through with the lottary. I suppose to attend the interview in a month or soon.

by the time I file my Application I was located in Chennai so in the pittion Chennai Consulate was mentioned as near by Ofice for VISA interview. After a month(in may) I left the company and Joined in mumbai based company and since 5 months I have been in mumbai.

My question is, Due to busy job schedules i may not go to chennai consulate and even i can't get leave too. Can any one suggest me:

1. Can I attend Mumbai Consulate?
2. If No what Cause I can show to the Consulate for interview?

I can produce all the required documents saying i have been in mumabi for the past 5 months.

You can try to attend the appointment in Mumbai consulate and clearly explain the reason, with all documentary evidence. Consular officers usually look at evidence provided in such cases, so good luck. If not, the worst case is that you will be redirected to Chennai consulate.

It is somewhat hard to predict what is going to happen, but you can be somewhat assured knowing that you have all evidence with you. Good luck.
 
If you would have stayed for more than 6 months with a residence proof in Mumbai, then you can attend Mumbai consulate; Otherwise, you have to attend Chennai consulate only.
Even if you attend Mumbai consulate, they will refer back to Chennai which is a waste of time and money.
