Which comes first -

EAD or AP or FP ?

Is there a relation between them which has to get approved in what order ?

How long are they valid ?

Thanks

There is no relationship.

FP - Scheduled by USCIS. Some of the older cases has requested FP. Valid for 15 Months (If I remember correctly)

EAD - Valid for 1 year. Not required by H1b holder if H1B is valid, but required by spouse to work, or H1B holder to have additional job. Has to be current to be used with AC21 portability.

AP - Re-entry permit into US, valid for 1 year. Not required to have one, but it is good if you want to travel outside US, or in case of emergency.

Depending on the status of the GC process, will determine what you need.

If the other members want to add or correct me, please feel free. This is just my interpretation and not the law...

Just to add a little

FP is usually valid for 12 months.

All three are tied to your I485 process, usually you receive FP notice when the Adjudication Officer is looking at your case. Other two when your application is reviewed and approved, there is no precedence, but usually the EAD is approved first.

You can check current processing times for your respective service center at USCIS website, it will tell you how close your case is to be reviewed.

If anyone can your 1st question "Which comes first - chicken or egg ? ", surely can answer your other questions.

EAD and AP is valid for 1 year and FP for 15 months.

A chicken and an egg went to bed. Afterwards, the chicken lit up a cigarette, took a long drag and laid back with a big, satisfied smile. The egg rolled over, pissed off as hell, pulled the blanket up and grumbled, "Now we know who came first!"

Thanks SydneyRacquelle!!

According to Rich00, FP is issued when they are looking at the case. Shouldn't then the order of approval be FP/EAD/AP
or FP/AP/EAD ?

Please ignore my ignorance.

No. No relation, whatsoever. Some people are getting FP 2 years after getting their first EAD and AP. No clear logic exist.
