Key is that you keep the support from the state department of health. Some of them want HPSA, others are fine with MUA or MUP.

If you want to check the designation for a site:

http://bphc.hrsa.gov/bphc/database.htm

In order to check on the proper geographic designator for a given street address (town, county, census tract):

Above is the response from Hadron. Thanks Hadron, you are doing a great job. here is my question.

in the census.gov site, when i find a census tract where do i enter that at hrsa site. for hpsa designation there is only a place to enter county and state. Should i enter the census tract and other info at the same space where county can be entered. and in the result where it says that a place is designated would that mean its hpsa or mua.

On the HPSA site you enter the state and the county. It will give you a list of areas. On that list you have to check whether the 'C.T.' or the name of the town (MCD) show up (or the entire county if it says 'SCTY' and 'designated' next to it)

On the MUA database you also enter state and county. You get a list of named MUA's. When you click on the name, it will give you a list of the geographies included.

There is not particular feature were you can plug in a CT and get an answer whether it is HPSA/MUA. Also, it can be helpful to print out the maps from the census bureaus mapping server (TIGER). They are fairly detailed and you can figure out whether a certain block is in or out of a HPSA.
