Hi all,
I have valid H1 visa stamped on passport. Right now in India on vacation. I want to come back to USA from India. If I first travel to Canada ( Toranto) and spend 2 days as a tourist and catch US flight, do I get I94 before boarding USA flight? I mean do they complete immigration check at Canada airport and issue I94, so that when I land in USA city, I just walk out as a domestic traveller? Please let me know.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

---- You get an I-94 at the POE in the US. The procedure is while in the flight they give you a white to fill out and once filled out you submit the care to the immigration officer at the POE and he will verify your valid visa and other documents and accordingly stamp the appropriate visa and the validity date on the I-94.

Is this the first time you are coming to the US?

Not entirely correct....Most major Canadian airports have a PFI (Pre-Flight Inspection). Essentially you meet with the CBP officers while still in Canada, (similarly as if you would have crossed a POE on US territory), so you never cross a POE when you land in the US, and therefor you would not be filling out the I-94 in the plane as you stated.

You would cross a POE in the US if you flew on a charter flight like Air Transat.

---- Yes, you are right. I forgot the last time I came to US they gave me a I-94 after the check in counter in Toronto, Canada.

Thanks for clarifying

Thanks guys. Subramanya & curiousGeorge - I appreciate your replies. It really helps. Do I need Canada visit visa if I want to spend 2 days and move around before catching US flight? My mother is also traveling with me . She has USA Visitors visa (B2). Is there any additional issue with USA visit visa holder.?
