Where can I find alien resgisration number ?

Dear all,

Thank you for your time.I just got my social security number and am waiting for the green card to be mailed.I am filling out a FASFA student aid application forms and in one of the questions there is a field that asks me to fill out my alien registration number.Where do I get that from..I don't think it is appearing on my DV visa that is on my passport.Please help how to get that.

The alien number is the the Registration number on your visa.

In my case, the visa officer worte the alien registratio number on my passport in his handwriting near the ceal that he put on it when I was admitted to the US. And nope, it is not there in the visa stamp.

That's weird: In my case it was also the registration number. I suppose, if they don't write anything at the POE, then it's the registration number of the immigrant visa.

You are right! Guess I didn't look at the visa stamp carefully enough. The alien registration number is written in my visa stamp right below where the DV case number is written. In addition, the immigration officer wrote it in his handwriting in the passport when I was admitted to the US.

I was wondering what my 'A' number was as well as I need it to ship all my crap. After a good google I discovered that pre mrv (machine readable visas) the A number was in fact written on the physical visa at the poe. As in is now included on the temp 551 there is no need to write it anymore. I'd say the guy who wrote it on yours did it through force of habit of the old system.
Its annoying that the reg number does not have the 'A' number on it,bit confusing when your looking for it as I was! The number including the a is also on the bit of paper attached to the packet that you need at poe.
