When will my 485 get approved?

Hello all,

I am on H1-B. I have applied for 140 & 485. I did not apply simultaneously. There are marriage issues that everyone is aware of and I wanted to find out when my 485 is likely to be approved. I read a few mails in this forum and am not able to comprehend a lot of acronyms.

1. What is a PD? How can I find out mine?
2. What is RD? How can I find out mine?
3. What is ND? How can I find out mine?
4. Approval of 140 and timing should not affect marriage plans at all correct.
5. What all factors affect when my AOS gets approved? service center, RD?? Is there anything else?

I believe I filed for AOS at the Nebraska service center in aug 2004. I was looking at processing times and currently it seems to be july 2002. Is this correct?

Can I assume that it will take ~2 years for my GC to get approved. I have heard that the processing dates went ahead by 6 months in one day at the service center. Is this true?

I want to get a fair idea so that I dont get trapped with my AOS getting approved before marriage.

Thank you all in advance for your responses.

Priority Date is the date on which your LC application was received by the state. Or the date on which your I140 application was received by USCIS in case labor certification is not required.
2. What is RD? How can I find out mine?
It is the date on which the USCIS receives your application.
3. What is ND? How can I find out mine?
It is the date on which the USCIS issues a receipt notice.

Correct.

I485 is the application for AOS. If that gets approved then you get your green card.

You can check the processing times on USCIS website.

Your guess is as good as mine.

---> CIS mainly works off RD and PD but there are more than enough random approvals due to pilot programs and otherwise. For example: A lot of late 2002/early 2003 RD folks are waiting but quite a few late 2003/early 2004 folks have already been approved.

----> Processing dates won't catch up with 2004 most probably any time soon. However, you may get one of those "lucky" approvals much before the processing time reaches your RD.

----> If I were you, I would start planning my marriage now, and get done with it soon after 140 is approved. After that, your 485 can be approved anyday and if that happens before your marriage, you can be in deep do-do.

goodluck!
