You can apply for citizenship, 4 years and 9 months after the Residence Since date on your Green Card. Rule of thumb!

March 2012 your eligibility date, you can apply 90 days prior your Eligibility Date

If yours Green card written date of resident is march 2008
1. March 2009 your first year completed
2. March 2010 your second year completed
3. March 1011 your third year completed
4. March 1012 your fourth year completed
5. March 1013 your fift year.
One could apply before 90 days ahead time then you are eligible to apply sometime in December 2012.
Not to wait for March for 5 years completion.

why make it so complicated. it is 4 years and 9 months after the Residence Since date on the Green Card.
The earliest you can apply for citizenship is 90 days (not 3 months! - very important!) before the fifth anniversary of the date on your GC.
