When where should I apply?

My GC expires 2014. I wanted to apply for citizenship but I am moving from CA to NY for 8 months. I can keep a mailing address in CA. Should/can I apply now and then change the address to NY. I don't have enough time in NY to wait for 3 month residency requirement. Should I just renew my GC and wait until I'm back in CA.

Since your stay in NY is temporary, you can apply for citizenship now with your CA address, provided that you maintain an actual CA residential address (i.e. not a PO box or business address) while you're in NY for 8 months, and you maintain your CA driver's license/state ID, and you're willing to travel to CA for fingerprinting, interview, and oath.
