When to join Future Employer (Please respond)

I am working for Company A and have applied Green card thru Company B.
I wanted to know
1)when i need to join Company B?
2)Company B have applied i-485, Do you think the new law saying " i can leave the company if my i-485 is pending for more than 180 days" can this law be applied in my case and i dont need to join Comapny B?
3)Is this illegal that i am not currently working for my sponsor company
