Hello everyone,

I have searched this forum, but can not find an exact match to my question, so I am hoping someone can show me the way :)

I (USC) have just mailed the I-130 & I-485 for both my parents last friday, they are currently in US with valid B2 status. I did not file the AP yet because someone told me it is better to wait until I-130 is approved. I am now a bit confused, and have 3 questions.

1. how long approximately does it take for I-130 to be approved for parents? The application was mailed last friday to chicago lockbox.
2. Is it correct that I should wait for I-130 approval before applying AP for my parents? They need to travel abroad in July for medical reason, and I am a little worried that they won't be able to get AP before that if I apply too late.
3. How long does it usually take for AP from mailing the application to receive the document so they can leave USA. I am in NYC.

Again, thank you very much in advance for your help.

There is no such a thing: You don't need to wait for the approval of I-130 to file I-131. You should have filed everything together. But, since you didn't, I think, now you need to wait for the recept notice to file I-131. Getting AP takes about 3-4 months. So, they should be fine for their July trip.
Btw, there is a good chance for your parents to get their green cards by July, in which case they won't need AP. If they are not interviewed/approved by July, and they leave with AP what are you going to do about their interview?

oops... i guess i should have checked with this forum before i listen to people.... well, i will wait for the receipt notice to file the i-131...
i assume that if my parents don't get interviewed/approved by july, but gotten the AP, they will travel abroad for a few months and come back when we get the interview date.. i heard that they usually give you one month advance notice for the interview date... is this correct?

It is correct. But what if you get the interview notice the next day they leave?
