NCS site says it takes 450-480 days. What should one do if that period has passed.

One answer "Wait"

That's right, there is nothing we can do, but wait. I have called, written letter inquiries, contacted congressman and senator. My attorney has also called a few times. Nothing works, just sit back and wait that is the best thing we can do.

GC day, well at least you've tried your best. I think it'll be less frustrating for everyone if they try your approach and absolutely make sure they've done everything in their power to expedite their case than to jsut sit tight from day 1. I know it's of little consolation but if you have time, keep writing to these elected officials. One staff member might contact the INS on your behalf just to get you off their backs.

There is nothing to be done but to learn to enjoy the wait

If you are deperate -

You can complain to the inspector general and ask them to look into your case

Sue the INS with the help of a good lawyer for failing to act on your application in a reasonable and timely manner

However, be forewarned that neither is an option that a majority of folks here would consider even as a last resort, lest the INS deport us home in a fit of rage under the garb of some arcane rule.

I guess things are so bad back home that we infinitely prefer to grovel and endure the interminable wait
