Folks,

Any idea/suggestion on how far in advance one should apply for AP and EAD?
Also what are their typical processing times nowadays?

Thanks!

nhussain,
Currently General processing time is around 45-60 days for both EAD & AP.
That is Paper filedEAD.
Based on my experience, my suggestion is don't even think abt filling for ONLINE Ead

But for EAD, it is always better to apply for 90 days before your current one expires since you can get IEAD in case your EAD does not get approved.

EAD: 45 days, AP: > 5 months

My experience has been that it takes 45 days for the EAD renewal and 5 months (and counting) for the AP renewal. I applied in early January 2004 and still haven't heard from the TSC. So, make sure you apply early enough for your new AP if you really want to travel. Otherwise, you find yourself in the same miserable situation I'm in where I have to travel frequently due to my job and just not allowed anymore. :(

last year it took me almost 8 months to get my AP. Applied in May2003 received in Dec 2003. So this year I applied 8 months before it expires...

My attorney told that we can apply only 6 months before expiry of EAD. Not sure if there is any law or not....

My first AP took one month, the last one took 8 months.

On my last EAD, I got an RFE (they wanted a photocopy of driver's license) and that delayed it by another month. Then they lost my wife's EAD in the mail (by typing in the wrong address I guess) which delayed by another month and a half.

My answer: It is NEVER too early to apply for EAD and AP. As long as you can afford it. As soon as you get it, apply for the next one.

ND/RD Aug 2002
2 AP
1 EAD

Folks....

My case has been trans to local office, a month or so ago... Does it mean I need to apply at the local office or still the paperwork goes to TSC?

Thanks!
