When is an alien # (A#) assigned

Hi:
Can anyone give feedback on when an Alien # (A#) is assigned to an individual?

Is it typically done when a I130/ I140 is filed and/or approved?
OR
Is it only when a I 485 application is filed, regardless of whether the I485 was filed as a beneficiary of a I130 or I140 petition?

Thanks

It is when you filed the application for I-130 and I-485. Even EAD card has Alien number printed on it.

485 EAD is your life A#. EAD based on OPT has an A# but that is not a life A#, if you file 485, you are issued a new life A#. Just clarifying.

What happens if the I130 and I1485 are not concurrently filed? Does the A # get assigned only with a I485 filing?

Also is it common to have a A# assigned to a I140 filing only?

Thanks

Yes, when filing for I-130, you don't get an A#. You get an A# only when you filed I485.

filing I140 will also get you an A#, but this A# may change again when you file I485.
