when i i file my n-400?

I became a permanant resident in Jan'98. I left the country for 1 1/2 years after getting a reentry permit.

I came back in Aug '99 and have not left the country since..

My question is... When i am eligible to apply? I understand INS
gives credit for the last 1 year of stay away.. So Am I eligible
to apply in Aug'03?

And any idea how long it takes to process this (N-400) in the PA area?

Physical presence in USA should be 3 years (5 years category).

If you continuously stay outside USA for less than 6 months , then it will not be counted.

But If you do so frequently enter & exit and it sounds like your intention is to stay outside, then the Officer could suggest you to withdraw the N-400 & start over again.

It is wise to consult with a good immigration lawyer.
