Hi All,

My FP appointment is on 12/22/05. By reading the posts in this forum I know that Finger print status can be checked by calling FBI. Is the same thing applies to Name Check too ? If not, then at what point I would know , is it only the interview or could it be known before Interview.

Ah, a very good question... to which nobody knows the answer. FBI stoped responding to name check status request to concentrate on working on the backlog (Apparently the 2.5 million people backlog they have created can be resolved much quicker if they took a couple of people who used to respond to email requests and make them work on cases. I guess those two guys are Supermen/Superwomen of name check processing). So, at this point of time, there is no way for somebody to check their name check status. USCIS says it can't do anything 'cause it's FBI. FBI doesn't respond. Case closed. You can try your congressman/senator but chances are they'll tell you what USCIS tells them - they are working on it, be patient.

FBI backlog

So, there is no monitoring system that would post something on-line, like "currently processing requests from August of 1857"??? Is there a way to find out when was the name check even requested by INS?

I've heard a rumor somewhere that FBI and USCIS now concentrate on the latest cases to improve their internal reporting numbers: instead of fighting the ever increasing backlog and average processing times, they process the most recent applications first, and the ones that are really old would be the last ones to be processed. This way, they can respond to the public: "Look at our average statistics for the last several months with average response time 2 months or less. What are you talking about? we are not slow and irresponsive."

A friend of mine went for her interview in San Diego about two months ago, passed it, during the interview requested to have her name changed to her husband's last name, nobody sent her file for a name change verification or re-check, and she was sworn in two weeks after the interview! My situation is almost identical, and I've been waiting now for this stupid name check for the last 1.5 years, and now have to spend $$$ suing the bastards to perform.

Bloody frustrating :-((

I had an Infopass appointment yesterday and I asked the officer when they sent my name check request to FBI. She had my Case Status page displayed on the monitor and she told me that my case is pending because of name check and they sent the request for name check to FBI on November 9, 2004. She printed a copy of my Case Status which has all the information including all the correspondences about my application as far as I could see from the small window. I asked her if I can get a copy of Case Status that she printed, but she said I have to use FOIPA (Freedom of Information...) to request a copy of it.

Case Status she printed is considered an "internal document" according to the officer. She printed because they are supposed to sent the request to Naturalization Department which is located on the same building on a different floor for their attention.

My appointment was about 11 and she said if I had an early appointment about 8 or 9 she could have sent me to Naturalization Department to talk to them directly. I will set another Infopass for an early time this time to see if I can talk to Naturalization Dept.
