My 26th Birthday was between when I applied for Permentant Residency and when it was granted. I was on a H1B visa before then and I obtained by permenant residency offically after my 26th Birthday. Do I need to click that selective service letter.

Here is the "Are you a male who lived in the United States at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays
in any status except as a lawful nonimmigrant?"

B2 Visa from 1980 thru 1985
J1 Visa in 1983
B1 Visa in November 1986
H1B in February 1987
Married US citizen February 1988
Applied for Permenant Residency July 1988
26th Birthday September 1988
Attempted to register for SSN November 1988 but to old.
Granted Permenant Residency February 1989.

Do I have to check YES on question 33 of the N400. Hope no.

You have to check NO.
For the sake of completeness, you might need a Status Information Letter from SSS for the interview.

Down load and fill out this form http://www.sss.gov/PDFs/SILForm.pdf and send with copies of visas to the address provided. You might want to call the number (847) 688-6888 and alert the officer. In my case, she asked me to send the letter to her attention. She was very helpful and even called as she needed copies of my I-20s and Practical Training Card.

They will send you a SIL and where it is mentioned that you were a non-resident alien before your 26th birthday that should be good.

Really you shouldn't need the letter, but if you have spare time on your hands, it won't hurt to get one.

Thank you. That puts my mind at rest. I actually got a letter a long time ago, I need to dig it up but I never wanted to apply if I had to check that box.
