when does a visa number get assigned ??

Folks, I've been stuck on name check since August, 2006. Now with the new rule I'm hoping for things to start happening, but given my luck, I'm still very concerned about what's to come next. I feel that every time i get through one of 'm hurdles, I then face another one which is even more formidable, so i keep wondering, what's to happen next?

for my country, the EB2 visas are current, but given the anticipated abrupt increase in applications getting through the NC, it may not remain current for long, so how and when does a visa number get assigned ???

and how do i trigger a new fingerprint notice ? mine has been done 16 months ago (expired) and i haven't received a new request.

Is the finger printing required by USCIS or FBI?

I am also curious how things with the visa ssignment will be moving now... i'd assume that if FP is the FBI related procedure, then you would not have to worry about it... Does anybody know which of these two entities require FPs??

My profile is very similar to yours, except I filed i 485 in May 2006, and filed WOM a month ago....

The fingerprint is another check required by the USCIS. I beleive the USCIS sends your fingerprints to the FBI and usually they get the response within 2 or 3 weeks at the most.

Finger prints checks are electronic and USCIS finds the results out from FBI within 48 hours. Name check obviously is completly different.
