When does a name check become pending?

Hi all,

The FBI's website states that name checks are usually completed between 30 and 60 days. The initial search is done within 48-72 hours and the manual search takes the rest of the time.

Now, my question is this.

A name check will ONLY become pending after 60 days from the day it was under review?

Essentially, when should one schedule an infopass to find out the status of their name check? (i.e. pending, cleared)

Any insight would be much appreciated!

Isn't a manual search only conducted IF there is a HIT on your Name or is ALWAYS a manual search conducted after the initial Computer Search.

Good question, my understanding is that a manual search is also but I could be very wrong!

I think we need the insight from the gurus :)

Approximately 85% of name checks are electronically returned as having "No Record" within 72 hours. A "No Record" indicates that the FBI's Central Records System contains no identifiable information regarding to this individual. By agreement with State, partially due to our concern about the time factors in approving most visa requests, a No Record equates to a No Objection to the issuance of a visa.

Sounds like a manual Search is only conducted if there is some kind of record meaning a "Hit" or an "Ident"

Because a name and birth date are not sufficient to positively correlate the file with an individual, additional review is required. A secondary manual name search usually identifies an additional 10% of the requests as having a "No Record", for a 95% overall "No Record" response rate.

So it sounds like After the first search and you come up as a "Hit" or "Ident" they manually search and that is when another 10% are cleared then, which means then 95 % all together are cleared like they said.

So yes I think there is only the initial search UNLESS something comes up then there is a manual search.

That makes sense, so essentially I could find out if there is any name check issue with me if I schedule an infopass in the next few weeks.

Remember that USCIS most famous answer seems to be you are still stuck in the FBI Name Check whether you are at that Moment or not it doesn't matter ... you will never know and the FBI doesn't give you that Info anymore either.
After reading post's on this Forum for now 2 Month .. there are people who have been calling USCIS for 2 years to find out their status and were told FBI Name Check still pending but then they found out it cleared 2 Month after submitting their application.
I think you are just so worried about something going wrong. For now just sit back and relax. I know it is easier said then done but don't get yourself sick over this.
If you want to get an Infopass scheduled to make yourself feel better go for it but also be aware that you might either not get the answer your are looking for OR you are going to leave there with even more questions.

I see what you mean but since I am NOT taking the phone route, I was hoping that an IO would let me know if I schedule an infopass appointment. I am still giving myself an additional 5 weeks since that is the maximum time for Chicago DO applicants to receive an interview letter (based on this Chicago thread) and schedule an infopass then.

My only concern is that some ppl on the Chicago DO timeline had later PD than me and have already received their interview letters so that is why I wanted to schedule an infopass to make sure everything is alright.

Well I just looked online and under the Chicago DO it says under N-400 that they are currently the ones from March 15th with receipt # processing.

For some it goes faster, for some it goes slower but for now you look like you have still a good timeline.

Even if there is a problem now .. you wouldn't be able to change it and I doubt there is a problem with your Application since they cashed your check and sent you a Biometrics Appointment.

As of right now it is out of your hands.

I really don't want to sound rude because that is the last of my intentions but I hope you see what I mean.

You also need to look at it that they send stuff back and fourth, there is a long long papertrail and you are not the only one with an application. So they open it the way it is received. So your could sit on someones desk for 2 weeks unopened because they have so many at this point.

It also doesn't matter if you call them or go to them. The # 1 Answer is your case is still pending in the FBI Name Check. Like I said if you want to go ahead and schedule an Infopass go right ahead but be aware. You might not be satisfied at all or leave with more questions like I said before.
