When do I need to renew my EAD?

Hi, I'm currently on H-1b with the expiration date of 06/2010. I also have an EAD (expiration date 08/2008) which has not been activated yet. Now if my I-485 is still pending after 2010, can I start using EAD? In order to do this, do I need to renew it now every year or can I renew it two years later when my H1-b is going to expire? Your replies are greatly appreciated.

Since you already have the H-1B approved till 2010, you have the option to use that till the above date. It is not necessary to file for EAD each year. Only issue is if you want to change jobs and the new employer cannot transfer H-1B, then you need the EAD. An EAD approval can take as lng as 90 days - so, please plan accordingly.
