When do I apply for Citizenship ?

Hi all, need some advice

We are family of 3 - Daughter (US Citizen by birth), Wife & I (green card holders through employer)
My wife & I are permanent residents of US with Green Card "resident since" date - 4th May 2009. In Feb 2010 I decided to move back to India due to health reasons of my mother (detected with late stage cancer). Even in India was working with the same company (since its a big financial company with offices across many countries). However kept my US credit cards, banking account etc active & kept on filing tax returns as well. Made a 3 week trip to US on Jan 2011 with wife & Daughter. However was not able to make a trip to US after that since mother's health got complicated. Unfortunately she passed away mid 2011.

On October 17th 2012 we have relocated back to US within the same company as before (so working for same employer who got me GC while I was in US, then India & back again in US)

Would appreciate if you can give your expert advice in this matter as I am confused.

So, if I understand it correctly, you visited the U.S. in January 2011, then went back to India, and your next entry into the U.S. was in October 2012. Is this correct?

If yes, at the time of your Oct 17, 2012 entry, did you have a valid reentry permit? Or just your green card?

I could not apply for re-entry permit as everything happened so fast. At India airport & US port of entry I was questioned about the same by the officer however they let me in since I told them the truth about reasons for going back & not being able to apply for re-entry. Thanks

OK, I see.

Since your last absence from the U.S. was over a year but less than two years in duration, the earliest you may be eligible to file N-400 for yourself is 4 years and one day after returning from that trip. This means Oct 18, 2016, at the earliest.
