When can one call the National Service Center?

Hi Gurus,

Since my PD is current I would like to call the National Service Center to check the status of my case especially whether the Name Check / Background check has been cleared.

I wanted to confirm whether the dates mentioned on the Service Center Processing Dates is RD or ND. It says "Receipt Notice Date" so it's confusing. It also advises to wait 30 days before the date shown under the heading “Processing Cases with Receipt Date of”.

Going by the RD it is just 6 days since my RD crossed the TSC Processing date. Can I call even prior to the 30 days after RD/ND? Do they turn down the call in such cases / Is there are a negative side affect to doing so? Also how soon can I call the National Service Center again if needed.

I called already - just due to the fact that it has been more than 180 days since I filed (1/10/06) so I have filed very close to you. Use the POJ method mentioned here - otherwise you will not get any info as to what the security check status is. If they don't want you to call again soon, they'll tell you.

I called 10 days after PD became current

Hi, I called 10 days after PD became current. But, the 485 was for my wife. Mine was approved in 2004.

I did not mention that the PD just became current. I told them I'm calling as per their previous response to our query (sent in Oct 05) 'we're actively working on your case. We have to perform additional reviews. Please call after 6 months....' and more than 6 months had passed by. The whole idea was to make them look at my wife's 485. The Customer service lady was nice and said she'll send a service request and took my wife's info and e-mail.

After a week, my wife received an e-mail and the response was 'currently there are no visas available for your PD......', which was not correct. My PD is Apr 10th 2001 and the current bulliten says Apr152001 (India). I also had a hunch that her security (name check etc) may have cleared, because they never mentioned anything about it.

I called the 800 number again. This time, I was transferred to (apparently) a higher ranking person, because the first one didn't understand what I was telling them. I explained the situation to that person and he said, 'so, if you think visa is available, why are you calling us? Contact TSC'. I asked him if he can put me thru to them and he said there is no phone number to contact them and I have to fax this info and basically gave me the fax # of the expedite request.

I already had everything ready to send the fax and was going to do it anyway. So, I sent the fax with all the documents, including a copy of my approved LC with PD on it. Exactly after 3 days, my wife's 485 was approved. According to the latest update on her 485 Online status, her card has been mailed.

In my case (or my wife's), if we waited for 30 days, the visa dates would have retrogressed again (in Aug, PD for EB3-IND will go back to 01APR2001, just 10 days before my PD). So, whatever I decided to do, I had to act quick. And everything worked out.

What is my priority date ?

Hi,
I am visiting this forum since the last six months. I have learnt a lot from this forum but after reading mails in this thread I am really confused. I want to call NCSC to enquire about my case (TSC I-485 processing date 01/16/06 but am confused what is my priority date for I-485). Date when TSC recieved my I-140 or I-485. Please guide me if I can enquire about my case or not. My details are:

That means don't get anxious now - you have just filed I-485 for a bit over a month ago and TSC is working around on dates around 1/16/06....
