When can I start a new job?

Dear All,
I obtained the I-140 receipt notice in December 2006. I obtained the I-485 receipt notice on March 5 2007. What is the soonest date I could start work for a new employer? Is it 180 days after March 5 or can the new employer take over the I-485 and I could start after I-140 approval? Also, do you have to be still employed by the current employer all of the 180 day I-485 pending period? The bottom line is that I don't want to jeopardize my Greencard by doing something wrong after 5 years of waiting!

I140 approval is must

You should have 140 approved and also, 485 being pending for more than 6 months.

I'm also wondering, do i have to stay with my current employer for these 180 days? If i quit or am fired after the 140 is approved, but before the 180 days are up, can i work for someone else after 180 days, or is my green card cancelled?
