When can I file for citizenship. Do I need to wait for 5 yrs. after getting GC?

Thanks,

you can file 90 days before 5 year anniv as a GC holder
If the date is wrong on your gc, and you never took time to get it corrected, could you apply based on the right date or you should add 5 yrs - 90 days to the date on your green card?

Date on GC is secondary. 485 approval date should suffice.
I think it depends on the class of admission. My residency started the day I entered in the country, and my green card had the right date - June 30, 1994, even though I-485 was approved in March, 1998, and only in 2002 I got the plastic card.
Now, my husband's gc has the right month and day but the wrong year - June 30, 1998. In order to fix the typo, I had to send his original gc to the INS. It took us 4 years to get those cards. We did not want to take any chances, especially that it was already 2002. No immigration officer, who I asked about it, could answer my question (I guess I just did not get the smart ones). So, my husband decided to wait a little more, and filed for citizenship in 2003.
I still think we could have filed for citizenship in 1999 with the approval letter, without the copies of our green cards (which we did not receive at the time), but every time I asked about it, the answer was: "They might accept it, they might not".
It is too late for me now, but I would really like to know the answers to these questions:
1. If there is a typo on your GC, which affects your residency term, can you file for citizenship without correcting it?
2. If you never got your green card, but you have the approval letter for I-485, can you file for citizenship (of course with the other conditions met)?

If you have got the GC based on marriage to USC than 3 years otherwise, as mentioned by Rahul, 5 years(But in this case can apply 5 year minus 90 days!!)

How about the ones who got GC thru CP? The date will be the same as on card, right?
