When can I Apply Precisly?

Friends,

I got my Green Card in August 2001. It has been exactly 2 years now. My Fiancee is in India and I am trying to explore ways to bring her here right now. I understand if I become a Citizen of USA, it would be very easy for me to bring her here and it would be fast also.

When Can I initiate the Citizenship Process.
Can I leave USA for some time without losing my Green Card?

If I apply for 2 year absence, will that delay the Citizen Application for me for the same time?

What do you suggest is my best options here.

I would appreciate some help and advise.

It will take approximately 4 more years to get citizenship (2years and 9 months wait to be eligible for citizenship and 12 -14 months to get citizenship). In addition to this 3-6 months to get your spouse/finance on K3/k1 visa. If you apply for her green card as a permanent resident then it will take approximately 5 years. So the only easiest way is H1 visa. F1 is also possible but there are lot of restriction on student visa.

No other legal way I can think of.

I was talking about employment based GC.


He has already waited 2 years, so he has to wait for another 2 years and 9 months before he can apply.

Thanks for the posting. It took me awhile to understand what you were saying...:D. Finally figured out you were talking about 90 days/ 3months issue.
What threw me off was when you said

what is a k1/k3 visa? How does a US Citizen bring a spouse
to this country? and how long does it take? any ideas
 
Quick clarification. What exactly is the 90 days prior? Does BCIS go by the date the N-400 application is mailed or by the receipt or notice date?

Hi Guys

This is for my brother.
He got his GC when he got married to a US citizen. In about 6 months he will complete 5 yrs with his GC. Unfortunately he got divorced ( this happened after he got his green card).
My question is .. does he have to wait for 5 yrs completion to apply for citizenship or was he eligible after completing 3 yrs of his green card period. ( Remember he is not married any more )..
