When can I apply for US citizenship

I was admitted to the US as a permanent resident on July 2, 2001. I am somewhat confused about the interpretation of the 5 years of PR.

Two scenarios:
#1: Will I complete 5 years as PR in July 2005?
Year1 - 2001
Y2 - 2002
Y3 - 2003
Y4 - 2004
Y5 -2005
I do meet the physcial presence requirement for every one of the earlier years - 180 days in each year. So under this interpretation can I apply in July 2005? Assuming I will meet the physical presence for the upcoming years.

#2: Will I complete 5 years as PR in July 2006?
In which case the earliest I can apply seems to be 90 days before July 2, 2006.
