Hello everyone,
I would like to ask the community when I may apply for my citizenship. Here is my situation:
After spending a few years in the USA on different visas (Students, J1, etc.), I moved to the USA in June 2014 when I got married. I applied for my conditional Green Card in July 2014 and received it on 08/29/2015. After a couple of years married, we decided to get divorced unfortunately. The divorce was officially declared in January 2018. Once I got the divorce decree, I applied for the adjustment of status in February 2018. It was approved in April 2019 for a period of 10 years.
Meanwhile, I was sent by my US employer to work in Europe. I left the US on 08/12/2017 and came back to the USA on 05/31/2019. I came back to visit a couple of times:
- From 04/02/018 to 04/07/2018
- From 02/21/2019 to 03/02/2019
To make it simpler, I stayed outside of the US for over 21 months (643 days):
- From 08/12/017 to 04/02/2018 (233 days or 7 months and 21 days)
- From 04/07/2018 to 02/21/2019 (320 days or 10 months and 14 days)
- From 03/02/019 to 05/31/2019 (90 days or 2 months and 29 days)
Looking at the requirements, I obviously broke the continuous residence. However, I read about the 4 years and 1 day rule. I would appreciate if the community could share some guidance on when I could apply.
Thank you!
