when can I apply for AP

I am on H-1B and just recieved approval letter for my labor certication. I am sending my I-140 papers today. I would like to know when I can get an AP. It depends on the retrogression but would like to know what will be the subsequent stages in this processing and when i can apply for AP. Thanks

You can not file for AP or an EAD until you can file the I-485. Those benefits are associated with I-485 application only.

Is I-485 the next step after filing the I-140 or is there anything else in between. Also the current priority dates for my category is 2001 so it might be 3-4 yrs till I get my GC since I aplied in 2005 (just recieved LC). At what point in these 4 yrs roughly will I be filing I-485.
