When are winning selectees appointed numbers by the computer?

For the DV experts who may be able to answer... I've heard that selectees are actually selected way before the may announcement date when results are published.

My question - does anyone know when about (at least the month) the computer randomly allocates numbers to the millions of applicants in the system?

I know this is a random question but I'm just really curious
