If you are a natural born Indian citizen and become a US citizen by immigration, what Indian privileges do you lose?

Me and spouse are both Indian citizens and GC holders and we are thinking about how to proceed with our US citizenship. We work in Technical and Medical field. Since most of our families and relatives are in India, we would prefer to have strong ties there. One option we are seriously considering is one becoming a US citizen and another one continuing in Indian citizenship/GC. To be honest, the main reason for that is to have each leg in two different boats ;). Also, we think it would be easy for one spouse to sponsor another, down the road, if we change minds or situation forced us to relocate.

Also, we are considering the option of both of us becoming US citizen and continue India ties with OCI. Main advantage of that (IMHO) is both of us get to sponsor their own parents/siblings for US GC, if we need to. I personally don’t see any other advantage in that approach. But the main dis-advantage is we MAY BE losing some important privileges in India but we don’t know what for sure.

So, can someone shed some lights (or point to the correct thread/group) on , what Indian privileges do we lose ?

if you get OCI, you can do lot of things in India, but still is NOT dual citizenship. you can buy non agricultural land, study there, work there in private sector. CANNOT take govt job. cannot vote in india. Your main ties will be USA only for most official purposes. Even if you are in India, you have to file USA income taxes without fail. All citizens have to do it.

I dont think you lose a whole lot in India on a personal basis, these days it is a world economy.

Do you plan to relocate or R2I? or long term LIA? What are your plans for kids? Kids make a big difference whether you have settle in India or US or rotate between the countries

Our kids are both US citizen by birth. There also, they can decide where they want to continue their college or settle (once they turn 18). Till then, they will follow whereever we move. Also, I think one parent being an Indian citizen MAY have some advantages in their schooling related matters..Again, I am not sure.
