In so many threads people talk about name check ? what's this name check? is related to the finger printing any way ? If We call for finger printing status will it help in speeding the process? Whats the contact number for name check and finger printing ? Can senior members guide us........??? Thanks in advance.


Let us also track May 2003 filers. My case is filed under concurrent. 140 got approved in August 2003. My time line is here :

485 RD 4/24/2003
ND 5/1/2003
1st EAD 7/23/2003
1st AP 7/23/2003
1st FP 7/12/2003
2nd EAD 5/31/2003
2nd AP 5/31/2003

My understanding

I called the FBI office sometime back after finishing my second FP to ask whether the name check is done. They told me they sent the results to INS. But they did not tell me whether the name check is done. But this is really baffling me. I don't know what I did is the same as some of the other member of this forus are doing.
 
FP and name check are two diffrent things. They used to be there all the time. Prior to 09/11, INS used to wait for a fixed time for name check results from FBI. If they did not get any response, they assumed it to be OK and moved ahead. But, after 09/11, this became mandatory. INS does not process/approve unless they get the clearance from FBI for name check.

As per the sequence, it is not clear at which stage INS requests FBI for name check. But, it seems it is applicable for all cases irrespective of whether it is from Special Registration countries or not.
