What's the relationship between FP and name check?

I always heard that there is no relationship between fingerprint and name check. But I called VSC, I was told that only after FP, security check or name check is initated. So that means we'd better get FP earlier, and also we can not ask FBI for the status of name check until some days after FP.

Is it true? Please comment.

I tend to agree... when I called after my FP date but FP were not received and asked if my Name Check was cleared she told me that "... it looks like your case is not there yet...", so I think that until case status changes to FP received and case resumed name check is not initiated by SC.

and once name check is cleared, usually within 90 days after status goes to "...FP received and case resumed...", there is another LUD with no message change, and it could be that it's a name check cleared, and after that usually it's 1-3 month timeframe till approval.

all the above is just from my observation of last 6 mo trend...
