What's the easiest way for my partner to come and live in Canada with me?

Hi! Great board here, I've learned some useful things reading around. I'm still very confused by all the words on the official Citizenship and Immigration Canada site.

Basically, my situation is: I'm a Canadian and US citizen. My partner is a US citizen, and she has a daughter in high school. We've never lived together in Canada before, but as soon as possible, she'd like to come and live with me permanently. I was looking at the documents on http://www.cic.gc.ca/ and it seems like that means I'd want to sponsor her as a family member (I think), but I'm not sure.

Part of the problem too is moving all her possessions up here, if she comes with a big U-Haul will the border officials stop that? Or as long as they're declared alright, can it come through? I'm not sure.

Does anyone here have advice that would help guide me in the right direction? Again, we'd like to do this as soon as possible so it'd be great to get a lot of planning done in advance.

Thanks very much!

Your Imm. enquiry.

Hello,
As an experienced, former Candn. Imm. & Visa Officer [ & as a full Member of C.S.I.C. , & C.A.P.I.C.] I can initially freely help you, & properly advise you both, before you do anything else.
However, I'll need more details of both of your backgrounds [ all kept in strictest confidence ] in order to help & advise you.
My own details are at :- (http://www.rpdownie.701.com) for your records & reassurance.
Kind regards,

Thanks for the answers CourtneyEM and rpdowniejr, I was hoping to find something clearer on the net, because I'd imagine this is not an uncommon situation, so before I get involved in the deep legal aspects, I'm going to poke around some more.
