What's the difference?

Can anyone please explain the difference between concurrent filing and separate filing of I-140 and 485 and the impact it has to approval dates? So for example, my RD is Oct 2002 and I DID NOT file concurrently. A friend of mine filed concurrently, and his receipt date is April 2003. Is there a possiblity that he will get approval before I do? Thanks.

Technically that is the difference.Lately INS allowed individual to file both I140 and I485 at same time, once labour cleared. There is no news that concurrent filers will get approval earlier than the individual filers, so far as per INS it is merely based on filing date of I485.

But California Service Center is running a pilot project which is approving the 2003 concurrent filers ahead of 2002 filers. I have no idea on Nebraska Service Center doing the same.
