What is the next step when the online status says "The results of your fingerprint review ... were received"? Does it mean the security check has completed? So the next step is approval or RFE, am I right?

it means exactly what it says, they finished checking the fingerprints. They are still going through name check which might not have been cleared as of yet.
And yes, this status message may lead to an RFE or to approval. Time varries.

Wait a sec here, please.
Are you trying to say that thousands of people on this forum have never seen this status after their FP1? Is not it standard? Most of the people go thru FP1 within a few months after filing (in my case 10 month), then why it takes another year+ after FP1 to approval?
Do you know any cases when I-485 was approved soon after a status like this? Can you share it with the community please?

Good luck.

there are a lot cases here, for whom status message did not change and one day it changed to approved. so you never know that is posibility for him also,

just go throught approved threads, you will find a lot. for me also it is showing results of your fingerprint reviewed ... since last 1 and half year.

That's all luck buddy, even Oct 2003 person got his approval

status may not change after FP1. It will change if FP was taken close to approval (for many veteran members that went through FP2 it did). basically, if your FP1 was done more than 15 months ago, you will need to re-do it, and then you will get a new notice. once you are done with FP2, and it was verified and confirmed by USCIS, Your FP2 status will show an update. This is all being done when your file is being prepared for adjudication.
Hope it helps,

best,

The fact that FP has been done and received does not always mean that you will receive RFE or aproval immidiatly. The more important thing to note is what are the dates that the service is processing. e.g. NSC seems to be processing cases from 02/02 till 11/02. (Ofcourse there are variations, but point is mostly cases falling between these days are being adjudicated.). So unless your RD falls under this range your case will be kept on a shelf waiting to be assigned to an officer. Once it is time for your case to be processed, it will be taken off the shelf. At that time if FP has been done and is valid and other checks are done, will an RFE or approval be sent out.

My RD was Sept 2002 though I just did my first FP by the end of August 2004. I had the same message since day one until Aug. 31, 2004 when it changed to above message.

I am wondering whether this message tells me they just received my finger print (physical pattern) that they still needs to send to and be cleared by FBI, or FBI has already done their job.

FBI completed checking your finger prints and forwarded their response to USCIS. The message does not provide any indication of the results, and you will not get the message if you call either the USCIS or the FBI FP department.

hope you got enough information from all these

Thank you all for replying to my question. From your posts, my understanding is that FBI has done their job, now it's upto CIS to go over security check and to make a decision whether to approve or issue a RFE.

Good luck to you all!

alot of people never received this meaage and got approved. you can't tell how NSC works on AOS files.

but from what I see in this forum its just random, depends on the officer if he is in a good mood or not.

Name checks can take any time from several weeks to a couple of years - this is what is causing the backlog. If the name checks (several, not just one) are not done within the FP validity (15 months) then USCIS waits for the results and issues a new FP notice. Issuing FP notice depends also on availability at gthe local office. If name check is over but the local office cannot schedule FP, then one waits longer. I do not think USCIS does anything at random or that your process depends on the Immigration officer's mood like some people in this forum constantly suggest. This is USA and employers (the State included) want their employees to get the job done, following the given procedure. Like everybody elese here I would prefer to have got GC YESTERDAY. But let us be realistic - there are nearly 2 million cases waiting only in our EB categories. For details on standard operating procedure of I-485 concurrent and non-concurrent see my attachment of this document (large file) http://www.immigrationportal.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=8712

total pending I-485 cases are 1.21 milions including EBs and all other caticgories which I belive are much much much more than the employment base filers.

Name check is required to get a visa to the united states now from any counculate and it is taking between 2-10 weeks.

Name check never been the cause of the back log. it is the process and the quality, can you tell me how 100s of people in CSC got there GC in less than 6 months in the pilot filers if the name check takes 2 years?????
