What use is EAD w/o SSN ??

Hello All,

My wife would like to work as we have approved EAD for her. However, everywhere she fills up a job application, she is asked for a Social Security number. But being on H4, she does not have one. The employer probably needs one for background checks and such.

Now, how do we go about getting a job without a SSN for her ??

When u get a EAD, u can go to the local Social Security Office and apply for a SSN.

A social security number is not a pre-requisite for seeking employment. However, the employee need to get one in a reaosnable period of time (2-3 months) so that the tax and other deductions are reflected correctly. Use the EAD to apply for SSN at the local SSA office.
