 My lawyer wanted me to write on the check " USCIS" ....And I just learnt that is wrong...Do you think the lawyer may be not knowledgeable?
What will happen now?
I am in NJ, sent the package to Vermont on May 31st.

Any comments is appreciated.

Thx.

You are supposed to write "Department of Homeland Security"... However, it is not the end of the world but may delay the process a little. You will get a NOA asking you to send the right check...

BTW this is an educated guess, I do not have direct experience with this.

Why do you need a lawyer to tell you that?
The instructions are very clear and they ask for the full title - "Department of Homeland....."

hi

I am applying through a lawyer. My lawyer emailed me today stating the check will not come back and it will be cashed. I dont think a lawyer mislead me or not?

Unless your case is complicated, you don't need a lawyer.

I was about to write that your lawyer was a moron, that the instructions clearly say to make the check to the order of "the Department of Homeland Security" when I found this:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/us...nnel=fe529c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

12. How can I pay my application fee?
You must pay your application fee with a check or money order drawn on a U.S. bank in U.S. dollars payable to "USCIS."

Oh well.
