What to do ?

My gc approved in July and received the card in a week after approval. My wife gc got approved on Oct 3rd and we received a mail on Oct 6th saying the card was mailed. We were using my brothers home address as the mailing address as we live in apartment. Even after 30 days we haven't received her card yet. We are travelling to India on Nov 17th.

Today I visited local INS office to request passport staming for the travel. But the officer said as we mailed it 30 days ago and we haven't received back as non-deliverable we consider it as delivered. Now I can't stamp in your passport.

So what he suggested is file for I90 (Lost card) and then come back next week with the reciept the we will stamp in your passport.

What should I do now ? The above suggesion is the only way for me now ? Any help is greatly appreciated.

It is not the best advice, but try calling the uscis that appears at online message : if 30 days pass and you have'nt received you card please call.....
explain your urgent situation.
On the other hand, if you apply for a lost card, you need at least 30 days for all the process to go through (RD, then notice for pp stamping)
I don't understand one part of your info: at what address did you receive your card ?
Is it the same address you are now?
Call and find out. I don't want to rain on your parade, but if you don't get that card in the next couple of days...your wife will have to postpone her travel plans. Nov 17 is just around the corner. I don't recomend traveling without the actual GC.

I am in the same address from last 5 years. But I was using my brothers address as my mailing address for all my INS communication. So far we received every letter with out any problem except this.

I tried calling the USCIS as they suggested (if 30 days passed and...). All they did was opened a new case request and asked to follow up after 30 days.

Not sure what to do.

I'm sorry there is no other way but wait. You know how everything works at USCIS (not quick at all) What did they tell you about your traveling plans and the urge to stamp passport for your wife? I don't understand why the officer at local office did not stamp passport. Before biometrics, people had to stamp and then get GC, so people had 2 evidence of residence.
I understand your frustation, but I think that if you don't get your wife's card by next week, you need to change travel plans.
