Hello all,

I sent in my N-400 Application on Monday. How and when .. well more when can I start looking online for a Status and do I need a special Number or PIN or what do I do now ?

Another Question !

I looked through the Forum and I looked at other people's signatures and it says Priority Date, what does that mean ? Does it mean Day One starts and now counting or something like it ?
With my previous question .. since I am the master to talk around the actual subject my question was how can I find out my case # so I can start looking online ...

Hi Ladybuggy,

You need to wait until your checks are cashed and thats when you can get your case number (they will be on the image of the checks which you can see online with your bank).

Once you have the case number you can go to www.uscis.gov and track your case. You should receive a receipt within 4 weeks stating that your application has been received and that you have a case number etc..

The priority date is basically the date you should start "counting." When you check for processing times on the USCIS website, you use your PD to check whether they got to your batch.

For the meantime, lookout for your mail and check your bank account to make sure the checks cashed.

Hope this helps!

Basically your job now is to sit and wait. Wait for your check to cash. Wait to receive a "Notice of Action" that says they've received your application and that it's in the system. Wait to get a fingerprint notice in the mail.

Your priority date will be on the first notice you receive. That's your official process "start date".

A little while after you get the first notice (I think) your case status will appear on the case status web site (you can find it off http://www.uscis.gov). Then, in addition to checking your mail box, you can check a web site. Your status changes slightly a few times, then it disappears (after you've waited quite a while). Disappearance from that site is usually a signal that your interview notice is coming soon (something else to wait for).

Wait, check your mail frequently, check your status, wait some more.

It's easy to become mailbox obsessed.

Enjoy. I've been waiting since mid-Septemer 2005

Thanks for the quick responses. I know I can't look up my checks online with my bank but hopefully I can just call them and they look it up for me, I really don't want to wait several weeks, lol.
You know .. I am one of the few people in this world who has absolutely no patience when it comes to waiting on something or for someone so this can be a huge task for me !
Wish me luck !!!

So I can say the my PD is the date the received my application or should I say my PD is the date they cash my check. I know it won't bounce so .. well .. sorry so many questions. Just like to add it right into my signature so it might help others later one like many of your signatures helped me understand INS procedures in certain areas. It really does help ! :D

Your priority date is the date in the "priority date" box on the form they send you. I don't know when it actually happens, but it will be on every piece of correspondence you get.

If your application has no problems (name check, fingerprint, background check, etc), it will get processed by the district office in order of it's priority date (relative to other applications). Hence the name.

Get used to waiting.

You have a green card, don't you remember what waiting is like? :-)

When we are talking about waiting for several months(if lucky :) ) or several years(if unlucky  ) to get through the naturalization process it does not matter if you consider your PD as the date USCIS recieved the application or the date the checks were cashed because in most cases those dates are pretty close and are spread between 2 to 4 days.

Regarding waiting and patience, welcome to the club. You will learn both!

True, I have seen through other's signatures that there aren't very many days inbetween. Looks like they are incredibly quick cashing the checks though which is good.
You know when I got my GC ... I don't really remember the process. The Army was about to move us across the big big ocean, I was 9 Month pregnant at the same time so I had so many things to do besides watching the GC progress.
I think that is why I am doing it now. I am 6 Month Pregnant so I am hoping with Holidays and Baby it will fly by fast.

You have to be a little patient. This process can take time. Within 30 days of the receipt of your application, USCIS will send you a NOA. On it, you will find your Priority Date. As previously mentioned, you can also find the same information on your check.

Once you have the receipt number, use the link below to find the status of you case.

https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/caseStatusSearchDisplay.do;jsessionid=a0JG26LkXQ__

If after 30 days you don't here from them, you can file an inquiry. You can certainly call them before that, if you're lucky enough to find a nice customer service rep, he/she may give you some information. Others may simply tell you to wait. But, if 30 days have past and you haven't heard from them, they have to file and inquiry for you.

Good luck,

Newly

I went to the UPS Store since I needed some more copies and sent it from there on September 25th (2.42 PM) via First Class Letter. I sent it with Certified Mail and Return Mail Receipt. They received it according to the Tracking on September 27th (6 - something in the Morning) ... hope this helps !

thank you all! :)
another question- did you write one check of $400 or 2 checks($330 and $70) (or it doesn't matter at all)?
