What to do if EAD expires?

Hi,
I have a situation here. My wife's EAD renewal was filed less than 90 days ago and her current EAD expires now. What possible options does she have now? Would it be enough if she took a long leave from work(without quitting her job) until she gets her temporary EAD (90 days from renewal date) from SJ center or SHE NEEDS TO QUIT HER JOB AND STAY OUT OF PAYROLL until she gets her EAD?

Please answer asap.

No pay is good enough, with or without leave. No need to quit job.

Actually ask your employer, if he will agree on witholding your pay, until you get EAD and pay you lumpsome later.
 
Thanks sillyman. I was thinking along the same lines. I will ask her to apply for leave and state "EAD expiring" as the reason.
