my dad was born in rawalpindi before the partition of india and pak. rawalpindi is now a part of pak. what should his country of birth be on my geographical info form for the 485 . should it be pak or India ??/

Current Pakistan was India before partition- so the country of birth before partition time should be India.

Same situation. My father was born in Lahore before Partition, and moved to India after it. His passport says, coutry of birth Pakistan, so I used that in GC forms. His citizenship is of-course Indian.

Agree sertra2002.

Country of birth should be one where the city is currently located. In this case mention Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Logic:

1. You cannot mention Rawalpindi, India.
2. In case of lottery GC, people mention the country of birth as per currently defined boundaries. Think about it many people from Bangladesh would not have got benefits of lottery if that would have been the case or the same would have applied for people of Pakistan(not sure if they are still allowed in lottery - some 3-4 years ago - they were allowed.).

My Dad was born in Karachi before Partition and his Country of Birth is mentioned as India in PP(Since he was born in India). That is what I have mentioned in my GC papers. That's what my Dad told US consulate when they saw his passport during the Visitor Visa interview. He did not face any issues
