i sent my N-400 to VSC, priority date dec. 19th, 2007. My name and background check was cleared as of feb 18th. an attempt was made to schedule an interview, no luck. my DO is baltimore.
now, we're most likely faced with a move to long island, NY. hubby will most likely have to move within 3 weeks, and my kids and i as soon as we sell this house (haven't started that process yet). i am wondering what should i do? stay here until i receive my IL or just move? at first i thought kids and i will stay behind since every time i called the USCIS they were telling me I will receive the IL "soon," one even said "within 45 days.". now last two times i called i was told 14-16 months (probably taken verbatim from the uscis website). if it is true it may take months and months, then there's no reason for me to stay behind and make two house payments. i was wondering what you guys think?
if i live in long island what is my DO? and how's the processing within that DO?
sad and depressed in MD :(

Hi vlorak,
First of all how could you so sure you can sell the house so fast? I understand your frustration since the USCIS waiting time ordeal is even get more complicated by you are trying to sell yourhouse...

Go for infopass to baltimore since your case is there now... try to convince them to expedite the case by telling them the situation.

If I were you I would do what GhantaBro said .. if that doesn't work maybe you want to see if you can afford to live 2 different households for a while. I was sort of in the same boat.
My Husband deployed again and I really didn't wanted to stay here once again with no support system so I really considered moving to IL from KS. So 2 different DO's obviously but I decided against it thank goodness because a week before my husband left I recieved the IL.
Maybe it works out for the best of you but I really hate telling you what you should do. It is a decision you and your spouse have to make.

Yes, go for the infopass and see if they can expedite your case. If not, maybe they can give you some information on how long will it take to process your case if you change your DO. Make your decision accordingly.

If you move DO prior to interview, you are looking at 4-5 months additional delay.

As others have said, go for the Infopass. The people answering the phones for the 800 Customer disService line are often totally uninformed as far as actual case status is concerned. Most likely your file is already in Baltimore, so they are the people to talk to.

i haven't thought about infopass. that sounds like a good idea. thank you. hope this process goes without a lot of bumps for you all.
