regarding CP for spose,(i am a GC holder) what qualtifies as a legal marriage? Does there have to be a religious marriage or just having a marriage certificate from the court is enough.

In the US, a marriage does nto have to be religious as it can be done in the court........so, how does this transalte to a non-US marriage?

thanks

Any marriage that is recognized by law (of the country where it took place) is a legal marriage. It does not have to be religious but it depends on the country where it took place. Most theocratic states need religious basis for marriages.

For CP/AOS, married applicants need to provide an original marriage certificate, or a certified copy, bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority.

A religious marriage is not necessary but there needs to be a document with proper seal/stamp to prove the marriage. A marriage certificate from the court is also enough.

If you were married religiously, you will still have to provide documentation to prove it.

Thanks.
