What options?

what options does one have if the employer can not
find you a job(1 month after GC) after getting back from CP even if I-551 is stamped on one\'s passport?
Can one work part-time in the store in the mean time (to pay bills you know!)?

Other companies are interested but I am little hesitant.
Is there any legal implication if I leave?

Your advice is welcomed and appreciated in advance.

Thanks

as far as I know once you are a landed immigrant and have reported back to work for your employer you are free to leave and work for anyone you choose to.

anand72,
Are you sure about this? I thought legally you are supposed to stay with the employer for one year or at least 6 months.
I am still waiting for the Plastic. What is the best thing to do in this scenario to play it safe?

I agree with anand ....

basically its the question of intent... at the time of ur CP and subsequent entry into the US, u and ur compnay had the intent to continue working together .... but now after a month of GC due to external factors (like the economy), the compnay cannot keep u, so thats ok .... it does not affect the intent and u did all u could to stay with the company ....

I think its not a issue in ur case ...

Agree with in9999

It is intent at the time of Immigrating that counts.(More on your part than the employer)

Also once you have entered on Immigrant Visa you are free to work additional jobs(moonlighting)if you wish... So you can find any kind of work to pay the bills..

You guys laid emphasis on intent. As I understand it, It is my intention to stick with this employer but they have not been able to find me work since I got my GC and I think I have to look out for myself(if you know what I mean) after all I paid(legal etc) for the GC.
My question to you guys is do I have to stay there for a while(how long do you suggest)?.
I have not received my GC plastic card yet-this should me mailed to me. Another question I have on this is - Will INS have a way of finding out that I am not working for my employer(GC employer) before they send out the Card?. Also, if I start working for another company and I complete the I-9 form, will this be sent directly to INS(which may trigger and screw things)?

How should I play it safe?

Your suggestion or advice is welcomed.

Thanks guys.

Think of ways you can prove it.......if needed

1. The Plastic Card processing center is indepenently processing your cards.. your taking job elsewhere will not affect your cards.

2. INS rarely checks if you are working with the same employer..but still theoritically You should be able to prove....documentary proof... that your intent at the time of immigrating was to work for the sponsoring employer indefinately. It is not easy to prove.....that is why INS looks at time you stayed employed at the sponsoring employer to determine intent.. It has generally been thought of as one year is a good amount of time to stay with the sponsoring employer before making the switch..
so look up all sides how you can satisfy INS to a reasonable extent...

I understand what you guys suggested. As I said before, it is my intention to stay with my employer BUT, I can not afford to lie fallow if my employer CANNOT provide me with a job. I have to do something especially with the state of the economy, nothing(from employers) is guaranteed.

Patta Hara, you said I should prove my intent by having a documentary proof. Should I get a letter from my employer(how do I para- phrase it to suit what I need) without making it obvious to them? Right now, I don\'t think they know the legal implication of INTENT from employer\'s point of view and I want to keep that way. Like I say before, I want to play it safe.
Please advice anyone.
Thanks
