What legal issue would likely be raised if a PR were in the same situation as Schiavo

Whoever kicks in, PR in that stage definately won't care about anything.... S/He will just keep making some blabbering sounds until eternity or until lawmakers stop making political issue of it or until every member of bush family becomes president :D :D . Hope it helps :D :D

It matters to person who signed Affidavit of Support

who signs Affidavit of Support for PR's??? I never heard about him.....But whoever it is, has to worry about this for sure, and PR's(in the same situation as Schiavo) has to just sit loose and let congress/president(current and future) decides their fate. :D :D

Bad luck, dude. If you plan to move to CA, stay in Holiday Inn Express and don't rent. That's cheaper. I don't pay rent and my home price doubled from what I bought.

Good for you.

I am not from CA(and no plans to move their), but one of my college is in that area. Can you give some hints to buy homes in that area. He is in sunnyvale and plan to buy home/condo around those area. I think his criterias are like decent neighbourhood, good school etc. Can you suggest where to start and things to look and any helpful pointers for him... appreciated.

I don't think it's the best time to buy a house in bay area. In last one year price went up about 20% (mortgage rate is partly responsible for that) and price is now pretty hyped up. People are ready to buy above asking price (as if they are going to drop dead if they can't buy a home). I anticipate some price correction in future probably in 2006 or 2007 - when that hype will start melting - just like tech bubble bust. But after all it's real estate and my educated guess is that future correction won't be more than 10-15%. So I would prefer to wait 1 or 2 years and watch the market. But then on the other side of argument, if the price goes up 20% and then goes down with 10% correction - how does it matter!

BTW, Sunnyvale is a pretty good area for family. Typical bedroom community (kind of boring though). Schools are good.

In the surrounding area,Cupertino schools are said to be very good comparitively. He can think of a house in cupertino as well if affordable.
But cost of home has been galloping abnorally in recent period.
I am told both in the east bay and west bay (in prime areas) the buyers are competing so much that almost every other day the bidding price is increased
by buyers as if there is erstwhile Gold(house-now) rush in CA.
When took a micro survey(simply out of interest) in one particular area/place for the bidders, who are competing to offer higher bids day in and day out(it was goin almost like an auction and made sellers very happy) and who are buying:
The bidders are:
1)recently got their GCs(major chunk in this category).
2)The spouse aslo has got a job now (thanks to the imrpoving job market) (stands second cat. )
3)Buying a high end house after selling the earlier one.(third cat)
4)moved recntly to bay area.(fourth cat.)
The above in the order of decreasing proportion.
As Pralay said it seems it's purely seller's market and they are getting much much more than ever expected and correction may come later.
