You can do it when you apply for Citizenship. Look at the form. The have a section for it. No extra cost or time. I have done this. Its very simple. Just send your marriage certificate with your application in addition to other required docs.

But that doesn't mean applicants from other DO will not be affected.
When I went for my FP and for my interview, I didn't see any extra procedure was done for me except she asked me to make sure how do I want my name and took my sign on a paper.
I met another N-400 applicant at my FP time who was not going through name change and I met him again on my interview date as he was there for an interview too. So our time line was exactly same.
anyway, this is my experience.
I agree that they don't have any standard procedure for all DO.

I had applied for a name change too, but had to wait for 3 months after interview, for oath to be scheduled. Reason being, in Philly, if a name change is requested, then oath has to be in a district court and they schedule oath only once a month. Which means you will have to wait for your turn and it might delay (it did for me) your oath and hence naturalization. You might need to consider this if you are planning on sponsoring anyone after becoming a USC.

You have two options:
1) Change it during the N400 interview (your oath will then be conducted in a judicial ceremony)
2) Change it after you are naturalized in your passport (you just need to include your marriage certificate to change your last name). The new name should appear on your passport.

Option 2 will be normally faster, as you not waiting for a judicial oath ceremony. Good luck.

I was not aware of this info. The interviewer should inform me about this. She just said I will receive a letter for oath. As such she was very cold.
Thanks phillydude, i learn something today.
