I would like to file as early as possible for my citizenship:

* I got my passport stamped on Oct, 2001. But I don't know when is the supposed to be the official date for my GC. And I don't have any record of approval letters. Could anybody tell me how I can find out?

* Does finger print comes first or after 485 approval?

Thanks for your help!

On the back of your GC (at least on mine) there is a line of information e.g., "XXX DAL 990909 ............" The first part is the category, the second is the District Office and the third part is the date i.e., the effective date of your GC. Also, I believe the I-551 stamp in your passport should show the same date as well.

Not sure what the question is..

Good luck!

The date shown on your GC is considered the official date you became permanent resident (it might differ from the date your passpost was stamped). You can submit your application for citizenship (N-400) 90 days earlier than 5 years from that date, but not a single day before that.
Good luck.
