Hi, I just finished five years in Green card and planning to apply for
citizenship. During the last 5 years, my wife stayed out of US, for 8 months continuously. Will there be any problem for citizenship because of that?

In the Eligibility worksheet, it says more than 1 year is not acceptable. But it says, not more than 6 months out of the country.

My advanced thanks for your response.

if you stayed out of the U.S. more then 6 months but less than one year without a re-entry permit(aslo called white U.S. passport), you will not lose your resdency, but it will be a real problem when you applay for citizenship.

What you can do is to collect some evedince to show that your wife stayed for more than 6 months but less than one year for a serious family issue, or sort of that. she didn't planned to stay for more than 6 monthes, that's why she didn't applied for the re-entry permit.

they usually consider this, since the absence was less than a year.

also i am advising you to have an attorney with you through the whole process, so he can help you to get through it.
