Hi Folks,
I am expectting the approval of I-140 this month or beginning of Oct00. Until this time I was only aware of 485 for adjustment of status. Recently one of my buddies told me that, there is another way of doing it through consulates in India. I am from South India so I am guessing the consulate would be Chennai(Madras). Can somebody tell me what is CP and how I can do it and what are the advantages/disadvantages over 485? and can I process both simultaneously.
Thanks you in advance for your replies.

Hi,

There is an entire group devoted to Consular processing at this site.

You are better off getting answers to all your queries there.

Basically, instead of going thru the 485 process in the U.S., you need to apply to your favorite consulate in India.
You need to provide similiar information and some more to them and you will receve a "Packet 3" which contains
forms that ask you about you whole life story and your dog\'s name. Once you fill these up and send it back, you will
granted an appointment date where you physically go to India to the consulate where they will conduct an autopsy on you
( remember, Potential immigrants are harbingers of all kinds of dangerous viruses) and will declare you are free from any
threat to the rest of us ( Mind you, you are not dangerous when you work in U.S., you become so when you wish for a green card)

Cynism apart, You should be granted approval and your passport stamped in a matter of 2-3 days. You will receive your plastic card
when you get back to the U.S. The only issue is that the processing is based on a priority date and if you do get rejected, your lawyer has to work hard to get you back. This is probably why most lawyers do not recommend the process.

Hope that helps. Good Luck !!
